Six from Baseball Earn All-Conference HonorsReading, PA - Six Albright Lions were named to the Commonwealth Conference All-Conference Teams Wednesday afternoon. Senior shortstop Kyle Wenrich (Reading, PA/Reading) and sophomore pitcher Casey Lawrence (McSherrystown, PA/Delone Catholic) were named First-Team All-Conference, while senior outfielders Jeff Kulp (Kintnersville, PA/Palisades) and Chad Mackey (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown), senior first-baseman/designated hitter Tim Conner (West Chester, PA/West Chester Henderson), and junior third-baseman Jason Dunkelberger (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) were named to the second team. Wenrich hit .292 for the Lions while cranking out 38 hits, scoring 22 runs, and leading the team with nine stolen bases. He also made his mark as one of the top defensive shortstops in the region. For his career Wenrich finished with 151 hits and 103 runs scored, ranking fifth on Albright's all-time leaders list in both categories. He was a Second-Team All-Conference selection as a junior. Lawrence earned his first All-Conference nod after finishing the season with a 2.02 earned run average and 56 strikeouts in 62 1/3 innings of work. He finished the season with a record of 4-3, with the Lions being shut out in all three of his losses. He also picked up his first career save in March against Moravian. Opposing batters hit just .239 off Lawrence, a number that dropped to .183 with runners on base, and he walked just nine batters all season. Kulp, who earned his third-consecutive second team honor, led the Lions in a number of offensive categories this spring. He hit .345 with a team-best 39 hits, eight doubles, five home runs, and 26 RBI's. Kulp posted a .566 slugging percentage, and also stole four bases on the season. In the final regular-season game of his career he tied the school single-game record for RBI's when he drove in seven runs in an 18-17 win against Elizabwthtown. Mackey hit .263 for the Lions and totaled 30 hits, marking the fourth straight season he reached the 30 hit plateau. Mackey scored 17 runs and drove in 17 more, including three in the final game of his career, when he went 3-4 with two runs scored, three RBI's, and a pair of doubles in Albright's 10-9 elimination round loss to Widener in the Commonwealth Tournament. Mackey finishes his career with 129 hits and 87 runs driven in. Conner, who split time between first base and DH this season, was named to the Second-Team as a utility player. He posted an on base percentage of .348 whioel leading the team with 15 walks on the season. Conner also hit two home runs for the Lions among his 24 hits for the season and also drove in 14 runs. Dunkleberger, making his second-straight appearance on the Commonwealth Second-Team, hit .288 with a pair of home runs and 13 RBI's this spring. He finished the season with 32 hits and scored 19 runs for Albright this year while again playing stellar defense at the hot corner. In addition to the accolades for the six Albright players, Lion head coach Jeff Feiler was named the Commonwealth Conference Coach of the Year. |
