Star pitcher CC Sabathia and slugging outfielder Manny Ramirez headlined a group of 24 players offered salary arbitration Monday by their former teams. Starters A.J. Mets general manager Omar Minaya is used to busy Thanksgiving weeks.
Four years ago, when he was courting Red Sox free agent Pedro Martinez, Minaya shared a meal with the ace on Thanksgiving day in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Three years ago, on the eve of Thanksgiving, Minaya took advantage of a Marlins' fire sale and obtained first baseman Carlos Delgado from Florida. And last offseason, on Nov. 30, Minaya completed a trade with Washington, acquiring Ryan Church and Brian Schneider for Lastings Milledge.
This time, the holiday passed quietly in what has been a sleepy offseason for the Mets. In fact, so far Minaya's only notable transaction has been re-signing Fernando Tatis, who is currently slated to platoon with Daniel Murphy in left field. "I think it's ...More |
